Question from Anonymous
is parking available? Is it municipal or private?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! There is street parking available in the surrounding area. Hope this helps.
Question from Heidi
I work with wool felt, but make a lot of leather straps for my bags. I'm interested in understanding a lot about attaching leather, making holes, cutting, and the different types of leather (where it comes from, etc.).

Question from Erica W.
Does Leather Working 101 teach techniques for machine-sewing leather, or only for hand sewing? And what types of projects does the class work on?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi, Erica! The Leather Working 101 class teaches hand sewing techniques only - they do not have leather sewing machines in their studio. The student will learn basic leather hand sewing techniques and then complete a personal project of their choice. I hope this helps!
Answer from rose s. Verified Student
Only handsewing. I learned a lot about oattern making which is super critical. We worked on three projects: a cuff, closed item such as a pouch and a personal project.
Answer from Georganne S. Verified Student
You learn hand-sewing but the instructor can give you guidance on machine sewing. First projects are cuff or key fob, then usually something to try sewing (small bag?), and then your own project. But if you have something special in mind, the instructor will work with you on it. Keep in mind this is still 101 and the instructor is helping everyone in the group.

It was a nice experience learning the basics of working with leather. Lix is a fun and a great teacher, now I feel confident to start fabricating my own pieces

Kat is extremely knowledgeable, and the class was a great introduction to the tools and basic skills needed to begin working with leather. It was more about pattern making and figuring out how to work with leather than about any one specific tool or tooling. Kat was very thoughtful in her approach and addressed everyone’s needs individually. She also had great resources to share for those of us who wanted to continue taking up leatherworking.

The teacher Kat was great and very knowledgeable however I didn’t feel like I was shown enough techniques. I didn’t walk away knowing anything new other than the pattern making, which was very helpful. Most of the time was spent working on our individual projects when I thought we would be learning lots of new things that we could go away and practice.

Excellent instructor. Class starts with two skill-based projects and then a project of your choosing. If you finish faster, you can do more. Great flexibility. Materials (leather, fasteners, tools) for class provided. Running a little low for my class but I am sure they will be replenished. I thought the class was so good and flexible that I took it twice and gained more skills and confidence.

Fantastic class and great instructor. Nice neighborhood and terrific atmosphere. Would have loved more tools such as industrial sewing machine and skiving, working with dies. Studio doesn't have these types of equipment.
