Florin Giuglescu

Florin Giuglescu, head coach of the men’s and women’s tennis squads, has his fair share of accomplishments. In addition to having a successful career as a player, Giuglescu is one of the primary reasons the Bearcat’s tennis teams enjoy successful seasons year after year. Giuglescu immigrated to the United States from his native Romania in 1973 and became an American citizen in 1979.

He enjoyed a successful career as a player. Throughout the course of his career, Giuglescu was ranked as high as No. 28 in the United States.
An avid supporter of the sport of tennis, Giuglescu’s impressive client list is something many students will be amazed to see. Some of Giuglescu’s past pupils include Mike Lupica, Peter Jennings, Bill Cosby, Dustin Hoffman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, and President George H. W. Bush.
Professional tennis players that have taken lessons from Giuglescu include Barbara Potter, Silvia Hanika, Tim Mayotte, and Yannick Noah, who won the French Open in 1983 and is the father of Chicago Bulls star Joachim Noah.
Since taking over as coach at Baruch in 1996. Giuglescu has led both the men’s and women’s tennis squads to successful seasons year after year. 

Throughout his tenure he has led the team to CUNYAC Championship multiple times with both the men and women’s side. He has also led to the men’s side to four NCAA tournament appearances. One of the reasons that has led to Giuglescu having a successful career in coaching and also why people are eager to work with him is his distinct approach not only to the sport of tennis, but also his approach to life in particular.
